More about megagames

How can I find a megagame to attend?

Megagames are run by individual designers or community groups, and our website maintains a calendar of upcoming games in the UK, online and around the world.

If you find a megagame group local to you, we recommend signing up to their mailing list to be kept informed about megagames happening near you.

What should I expect when attending a megagame?

Megagames can be intense and chaotic at first, but they’re also lots of fun! It’s smart to have an idea of what you’re getting into so that you can make the most of your first megagaming experience.

BeckyBecky Blogs has written a helpful blog on 7 things I wish I'd known before my first megagame, and Greg Evans has written Preparing for Your First Megagame - both contain some very helpful tips!

How can I get involved in the community?

Step one would be to find your local group and attend a megagame!

But if you want to get to grips with the online community first, there’s a bunch of places to check out on Facebook and Discord.

The Megagame Assembly Facebook Group brings together megagamers from around the world.

On Discord, check out the MegaCon and Megagame Coalition servers.

Local and regional groups also usually have their own social media communities.

What is a megagame?

A megagame is a large-scale gaming event that incorporates elements of board games, roleplay, LARP, wargaming and other gaming types.

It normally takes place over the course of a day, and you’ll be talking to other players and interacting with the game mechanics in order to achieve your objectives.

You can attend with friends or solo, and you’ll be cast in a role and normally placed on a team with other players.

Megagames take place all over the UK and across the world, in a variety of settings including modern-day, historical, fantasy and sci-fi.

Another great way to get an idea of what megagames are like is to watch a video - such as Shut Up & Sit Down’s or BeckyBecky Blogs’.
